Hanging onto the Bottom of the World

Year 5 Production!

On the 28 on nov 2019 an unforgettable event of the century had commenced. The amazing performance of the year 5s understanding of … Australian history. The performance was called hanging onto the the bottom of the world. It was a comedy play. There were had secret messages all in it. My favourite part was when Angus says do you need to go to the toilet love!  Everyone started to laugh their heads of! I played as Governor Phillip. He is a self-centred person. He is also a bit spoiled. Playing as a governor Phillip was not that easy. The play was a really funny play. I pull out a telephone out of my pocket! At the start of everything, before we got our lines we were all really nervous, some thoughts started flowing into my head, will I get a good roll, did I even do a good job…

I was soo happy that I got a really not big but not too small roll. The roll I played was governor Phillip. Something really funny is that I pull out a telephone out of my pocket, or I try to sit on a chair that is taller them me. Haha. I was in scenes 9-12/13.

Some P.L.A.s I needed to sow was lots of courage, lots of that because when I was performing my nerves were all over the place! But it was a lot of fun!!!!!

I would like to give a shout out to  Eleanor and Pat for having a go at the production, and making it QUITE funny at the start. And a norther shoutout to Miss Q for getting the production all ready and making sure that everything went “as to plan”

My Favourite Book this Year

The last 13.

If you like Mystery, fantasy and crime. This book is a great thriller book. The main character is Sam. When Sam has a nightmare about the destruction of the world, his life is thrown into chaos. This is the dream that starts the race to find the Last Thirteen. Abducted from his school by one secret organisation, he and two other kidnapped teens are then the target of many organisations. Their rescuers also seem to be intent on carrying Sam, Alex and Eva away despite their protests. Who can Sam trust and why should he believe their crazy stories about controlling dreams and fulfilling ancient prophecies?

If you do then this is you.

Camp of the life

Camp Toonallok

“Okay class, put your hand up if you want to watch home alone, 4 votes, put your hand up for Shrek, nobody, now hands for Mr bean, wow looks like we’re watching Mr bean” announced Mr Benwell as the bus pulled up to Yarragon.

“Go out and have some morning tea.”

We ent out to have tea and a little run around before we started the long trip to camp. At the place we stoped at there was a big, old train. It was really cool. After about an 10 min break we went back on the bus, and started watching Mr. Bean. The after about 2.5 hours on the bus we arrived at Tonna. The staff unpacked the bus and we heaved our suitcases to our tents. We had then mins to settle in and unpack for the first two events, kayaking and bike riding. The 5B were split in to two groups Jesse’s group and graces group. I was with Jesse and we went biking first. Biking was fun. At the start we checked if the bike is working well, then we were of. The first part of the ride was a really long one. We went down the road the on a path next to the beach. To heat things up we did a race, but it was no ordinary race. It was a slow race! Who can ride the slowest wins, or last to fall of and cross the line wins. After that great bike ride we went kayaking. We were in groups of two and had to work together. I was with Patrick (click here to see his blog) and we would yell right, left, right and so on. The water was freezing but I still had to jump in and capsize the kayak! When we finished we had the best hot showers ever. We got ready and then we played KING BALL. King ball is like 4 square but it has detached circles. The ball could only bounce twice in the circle  and we could not hold the ball we had to bounce it in our hands. For dinner we had the best burritos made by the best cook, Trish. After dinner we played the best game, THE SHOE GAME da da daaa. It was the best. This are the rules. We had to sit in a line facing the  opposition. The was a bottle in the middle and we had to hit it with the shoe. Then we had a long sleep for the next day!

On the next day we went did the best activity of them all photo rally. It is like a scavenger hunt but with photos. My team came first and we found 16 photos. After we did that we came inside for game time. Then once we played GaGa Ball and Bang, we went on a hike to the camp site we are going to go camping at. We walked along the beach and then through a fire break. Only a few lucky people saw a kangaroo. That night we played Emperors. It was also great… But it started to rain halfway through. It was a good camp. We all had to get great sleep for tomorrow, ’cause we are going to have a big day!

In the morning my group went on Toona storm and the boat was really fast. Some water even splashed me in my face. Then straight after the ride it started to rain. But it did not matter because I got wet on the ride. When the sun came out we started to fish. Sadly we got nothing. We took a ferry to rain-mend island. We saw 33 koalas and more then 20 kangaroos. We came back to Toona and had to write a reflection.

In the morning we packed up and got ready to go home.

Mr.B made a music video along the camp.

Terrific Term 3

The better term!

Year 5 Term 3!

What an amazing term I have had. First we had camp then the year 5 Diorama, then book week and I go to China for another school camp! I am going to tell you about this fabulous term. I am Harvey.

This is what I learned about in the unit Had Road Ahead.

In the 1850s it was not a pleasant time, in fact when the gold rush started things got out of hand! When word got out, that Edward Hargraves claimed that he’d found payable gold in Orange, everyone fled their family, home and their career to find this gold. So many people left, and when people leave jobs will have to close down because their are just not enough workers. On the gold fields life was just as tough. To mine you had to have a miners license which costs a lot, if you were caught without a license, you were chained around a tree or worse.

Some business did well in the 1850s while others struggled. We were given a business to build for our diorama. First we had to question the shop owner about its business in the gold rush. I asked who is Robinson and Wayne.

The Eureka Stockade was a rebellion for miners rights, to vote and for freedom. James Scobie was murdered in front of the Eureka hotel. That sparked the rise of the

Stockade. There were several meetings held on bakery hill. The leader was Peter Lalor. He was hit in the arm and had it amputated. He survived and was not found by the government.

Peter Lola was an impotent figure in the history along with Governor Hotham. Governor Hotham was said to have spy’s in the rebellion to know when the best time to attack.

The most famous date is 1854. It is when the famous Eureka Stockade happened. It was a fight for rights and liberties. 1851 Edward Hargreaves found payable gold. 1901 was when Vic was founded by Sir Batman.

I did the Apothecaries hall, here is some info. The apothecaries are the equivalent of todays chemist, specialising in herbal mixes, the apothecaries was where people on the diggings went to get medicine. Apothecaries were highly trusted even more so than doctors and surgeons, and had to pass many qualifications. The creators of the Apothecaries Hall, William Robinson and Philip Wayne, moved to the shop in 1859 and changed many times since then. The Apothecaries was important because helped people recover from illnesses with it’s medicines. The Apothecaries has now transformed into the chemists.

What was your favourite term like?

The year 5 Diorama.

Mini Sovereign Hill.

After the amazing trip to Sovereign Hill, 5B made a mini Sovereign Hill. We were put into groups of two, and made a  replica of a building at Sovereign. I did the Apothecarys Hall. I learned for making a map you need to have…

  • A  compass
  • A  legend
  • A Scale

Here is the map.

How would you get form the cottage F5 to B1?

The winner book of the year.

 The book of the year

Last week on the 23 of Aug we judged 6 books out of

  1. Sorry Day
  2. Make Believe
  3. Our birds
  4. Bouncing Back
  5. Waves
  6. Our happiness box

We judged on the information. Carey thought that make believe was going to win surly. But sorry day won.

In my opinion, I think a great information book needs:

  • Historically accurate information, it can not be a information book if it just was all fake?
  • It does not to be long, it just needs to have information and description adding on to the main ideas
  • The main information has to be clear and not hidden, because it would be hard to tell the difference between tune and false.

My favourite shortlisted book was Make believe. It was really good because I love optical illusions. Although the start was a bit confusing it was was my fav.

What did you think would win?

The Best Camp

 Marvellous Sovereign Hill

I had my fingers crossed, hoping that I’ll be with my friends for a two night school camp at Sovereign Hill. My teacher started to read out the sheet with the names… “Group 2, Patrick, Leo, Nic, Ned and… Harvey.” “Yes I had my friends with me”.

As the door opened to our doorm, (I think we all had our hopes up) we saw one spectacular bunk bed then four old friends rickety creaking bunk beds (the girls had way better beds, and they had their own en-suite). As we heaved our bags to the cabin Mr Brown, “announced that we meet at the door to head out to lunch for lunch, after lunch we will go down to the mine tour!”

We all had lunch really hastily (so I got the hiccups).

Mr Brown called us over into single file line to walk us over to the mine tour! We walked at quite a pace to the tour, eager to get there. When we arrived the instructor told us that we will go on a tram and that it will be pitch black and not to worry. (“Tram what tram”, I thought). The instructor took us to the tram and it took us underground. It was quite unsettling, I put my hand front of my face and I could not see it! When we got to the bottom some light turned on.

As we exited the tram the instructor took us over to an open space, then through a narrow tunnel. After a 1 min walk we came to a system where the miners would go in and out from the mine, a olden day elevator and the amazing… ladder. She explained how it works and the there is a pump pumping out lots of water. 12,000 gallons an hour. We moved on to the best bit. A remodel of people finding a really big pice of gold.

The second day at Sovereign Hill we had school at Red Hill National School. In the morning we went to a changing rooms to get changed into clothes they would of worn in the 1850s. The clothes were really warm. When we got to the school, we first started by selecting monitors. There was an Ink monitor me, a door monitor Duncan, the class monitor Esthers, and the dust monitor Leila. After that we went out for morning tea, and played with toys from the 1850s. My favourite toy was the button toy. It it had one string going through two holes and around your fingers, then you will wind up the button, then pull your fingers out and let the string twist up again.

On the second night we had dinner really early for a special event. Everyone was has talking saying they were really excited for AURA! As our cabin got ready we could not stop talking about AURA, what will it be like, dress warmly, I can not wait! We walked to the meeting spot and waited. To raise spirits we started to sing a song the we learned in music.

The teachers took us to a theatre, they said that we watch a 3D movie about how gold was created. It was so cool. It was the best. We moved on to the next part, we went into trams that took us to a lake and we watched something there. Then we went to the best bit!!! We watched a small thing about the time before the settlers came to Aus. SUDDENLY. The screen opened up to a outdoor recreation of the diggings. It was the best night ever!!! During the show the

Some PLAs are?

Courage, we all had to show courage when the inspector came to inspect the class room, it was quit scary. We also had to show some resilience because we had to address married women as Ma’am, men Sir, and non married women as Mis.

If I had to change something it would to extend camp(;
